There's no reason you _couldn't_ make an 8" f/6 to high standards
on your first mirror, but you'd have an easier time making it
around f/7-8. The accuraccy of the figure is the real issue for
views of the solar system .  I like long scopes because of the 
ease of attaining high power and of remaing in collimation.
