ATM Mirror cell stuff

I read in a website about building a sidewalk telescope, instructions for 
building a thing caleed Taligate, or as I understand it, a mirror cell. 
What the heck is masonite?

As i understood it, there is a wooden square, and you make three holes to 
put in the bolt. Then you but a triagle piece of card board that covers 
the three bolts. On all of the three bumps that are on the cadboard which 
are created from the bolts, you need to but "masonite", and then on top, 
the mirror.
In my Alice-Like design, this wooden pieces is going to be the bottom of 
the mirror box.

Am I correct? Are there any problems or mistakes? What's masonite?

And How the heck I connect the truss tubes!!!!!!!!!!!!
