        Not just for the az bearing; it works fine on the alt bearings as 
well.  Ebony Star is a particular variety of plastic laminate made by 
WilsonArt, item number 4550-52 or 4552-50--both numbers are mentioned in 
the archives, and I forget which number mine is (it isn't "formica"; that's 
another trademark, but it's the same kind of stuff).  It has a smooth 
but bumpy surface and looks kind of like a dark grey shade of granite.
