Re: ATM Schiefspiegler

Might as well make it challenging and have it be cut from a freshly
figured 127.5" ROC, bright and shiny convex mirror of equal diameter to the
primary ;-)

Parenting the primary and secondary of a Schiefspiegler is a great idea. A
couple of things to consider would be protecting the the polished surface
during the core-ing operation and minimizing the change in figure due to
core-ing. I haven't read much about optical surface protection scheams,
but I seem recall seeing somthing in one of the ATM series books. As for
controlling figure, I would suggest cutting the primary somewhat bigger
than is needed and blacking out the extra annulus. I would cut the
secondary oversized also, then carefully edge it (keep it cool, use finner
grit,...) to deal with its intrusion into the optical path. If I really
wanted to go over the top I would polish the edge of the part to releave as
much induced strain as possible.

Boy, and I've got the perfect piece of glass for it too. Now if I only had
four more hours a day, then I've have something.
