A memo concerning ATM Journal

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that trying to run ATM Journal these past 5
years had taken a great toll on my finances, my health, and my family. I went
on to say that I had been in negotiations to have the magazine taken over by
Captain's Nautical Supplies. I knew that when I did this, those who fail to
read anything thoroughly would again start rumors that we were going out of
business. Hark and Lo….wast I prophetic!? Indeed I wast.

Allow me to update and clarify. Captain's HAS purchased ATM Journal. And
since many people have been steadfast in refusing to believe that the Journal
was run from a corner of my family room, I must assume that the next rumor
will be how we are going to a 180 page 4-color glossy.

I do see a number of improvements on the horizon. However, they will not
start off in an earth-shaking manner, nor will they be instantaneous.
Captain's is 100 years old this year, but we are most certainly not rolling
in dollars and I am the only one in the organization with publishing
experience. Thus, there are still obstacles to overcome.

The positive results of the takeover that should be manifest right away are:

1. We will be able to take credit cards.
2. I will be able to spend more time with authors and articles and less time
dealing with databases, mailing procedures, and other admin operations which
will now fall to others.
3. We will be able to have more issues printed each time meaning that we will
have a better supply of back issues.
4. We will hopefully (before the end of the first year) be able to increase
the size of the publication.
5. We will be able to keep to a quarterly schedule. This should please all.
And those to whom punctuality is more important than content, mix, or
technical accuracy will undoubtedly become ecstatic.

Even with the changes, the Journal is still going to be sold by membership
and we are still going to need more help from the members-at-large. I will be
sending out a letter going into more detail as time will permit.

No letters have gone out so far, so please pass the word at every opportunity
and by all possible means.

The new address will be:
