ATM Binoculars --> finders

Several people had suggested making finders with binocular parts. So, I
figured, a great idea, buy a pair of cheap binocs and get two finders out
of it. I went with a set of Tasco 10x50's from K-Mart for $39.99.

What I am wondering about is the eyepieces--the eyepieces are attached to
the central post by stalks, and turning the focus wheel moves the post with
the eyepieces in and out--but the eyepieces are not actually attached to
the rest of the optical assembly, they just fit over the front. This is a
bit problematic. Does anybody have a suggestion to deal with this? I
would prefer to use 1/2 a binocular "as-is", rather than scavenging the
optics & making my own enclosure.
