ATM Advise on wxproof storage

Construction of my observatory is at least one or
construction seasons off. But I would like to use
the area for observing. The spot is about 300 yds
and 200 ft elevation gain from my house. I have
a "rough", home built 4 1/4 in reflector that I
would like to leave at the site. The whole instrument
and mount probably weighs in excess of 35 lbs
and is clumsy to carry.

Soooooo, I thought about buying a couple of
"Roughneck" type garbage cans with tight fitting
lids to store the scope in when not in use. Security
is no problem and I am not overly concerned about
the scope. Of course I don't want to incur
avoidable damage or deterioration. Your thoughts/
advice please. Any special precautions to take--
eg, desiccants, wraps, etc. Thanks. Mike.
