Search archives for ring tools. It's faster, no preshaping to a desired
saggita necessary (how would you do that, anyway?), and no problems
with rust as once hogged, mirror is finished with ordinary tiles.
To me (at least) major problem with washer covered tools is that they
can NEVER conform 100% to the mirror shape (as they wear much less).
This will get you in all sorts of trouble. So you wold have to make 
another tool for fine grinding. 
As to why ringed tools don't get used more, really beats me.
