Of course it would be a waste of money, but that was the point I was trying
to make. Cardboard isn't usually light weight but it would work fine if it
was 1/8" to 1/4" thick. In this type of application urethane foam or
honeycomb would be a lighter choice than cardboard. In general it's best to
try to balance the number and directions of plys on the inside and outside
of a part in order to prevent strange expansion, but with a circular tube 1
ply on the inside and 2 on the outside would be OK as long as you use
bidirectional cloth.
