I can enthusiastically recommend "Newtonian Notes". Though rather crudely
illustrated and bound (at least my version), it is pretty much a "all you ever
wanted to know"-type book on Newtonian design and optical trade-offs. It is
concise and accurate, and you'll come away with a good understanding of the
implications of your design decisions.
