ATM Alika K. Herring

Hi Val:

I'm getting the ATM list stuff on digest and I'm not quite real time so I
apologize if you have already been bombarded with answers to your question.
Alika Herring is the subject of a biographical piece by Richard Buchroeder
in the latest issue of Amateur Telescope Making Journal and you can check it
out on the ATMJ home page pointing your browser at
http://www.halcyon.com/rupe/atmj/welcome.html.  The article is not one of
the ones that Bill Cook has selected for the home page (he does have some
sample Journal Articles On-Line) but Mr. Herring's picture is the one on the
lower right hand corner of Issue Nine's cover which is featured on the Web
Page.  Also, there was an article about a year ago in S&T on Mr. Herring's
work as a master optician at Cave.  Apparently this man had a legendary
touch with glass in his day though his eyes have apparently mostly failed
him in his later years.   Both articles are an enjoyable read!
