The December, 1950, issue of SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN features
two amateur-designed telescopes, one of them by Mr. Herring,
then hailing from Middletown, Ohio, but originally of
Hawaii!  I remember seeing Mr. Herring's drawings of the
Moon in Popular Astronomy and even S&T, most of them made
with this telescope, a 12.5-inch, f/6 Newtonian.

Someone once told me that this gentleman figured many of
the brilliant 6-inch mirrors for Criterion's Dynascope
and later made many famous mirrors.  Can anyone provide
some more information on Mr. Herring.  Is he still living?
