I recall about the same time as this "Invention" was announced that 
someone else at NASA "Invented" a three footed spherometer. Although I 
believe their great claim was in determining the radius of the feet by 
measuring a series of certified master surfaces. I would have just 
measured the spacing between the the feet and let Gauss and Pythagoras 
give me the radius.
