Well, there's the spoiler!  I can't go back and repeat
the experiment ;) but I do recall vividly what I saw.
It was all the more remarkable for not expecting
anything like that.  It may have been a threshold
effect, the brain "coloring in" what the scotopic
vision was delivering.
