[ATM] What we see and what we want to see

To all on the list,

Opinion's, Advise, and direction are very active on this list... this is a good thing... The deeply educated and advanced person's on the ATM list are very willing to lend help to all. If I was a novice, never knowing anything about this new realm of making my own telescope, I would be confused....why? Because I cannot understand what is being discussed, I want to make a telescope to see the cosmos... I understand the complex transfer of information, I also do not understand some of the Mathmatical feed that turns into the light to the eye. If I was a rookie ATM, I would be overwhelmed with info that I didn't understand. Yes , I know this list is active and many person's are advanced in their ATM experience, and some are really Professional's and don't even know it.. I also know that whenever a rookie ask's a stupid question (there are no stupid question's) The "troop's" come to the rescue and answer in harmony... I really love this list, novice's and professer's can come here and actually get answers from the crowd that has been there, and done that.. The new member's to this list must understand that the "school yard" is filled with "Seniors" and some will talk about the best "mirrors or scopes" but they will always give you the way to create your own... The love of looking at the cosmo's and being able to create a tool to magnify your eye to the heaven's is a never ending push to keep the skies alive to those who only give it a passing glance.. Some are let down, because the eyepiece image does not look like the printed Hubble photo, or the 5 hour exposure that shows details beyond the human eye...This sadden's me , these fantastic photo's are not what any eyepiece can show. I have had many people look through a 13 inch DOB and think it was really neat, but where is the color.. I myself have asked the owner of a 48inch DOB if he could see color in the Orion Nebula.....the answer was ..just a little green.... I guess I am going on too long on this listing, My main idea is that most rookies have seen photo's from the Hubble telescope, new CCD exposures, or even time exposures on film that create a colorful universe on paper, but there is a letdown in the eyepiece... Maybe if we looked at the pictures before the "view" we would feel the same.... Just my in-look Russ Jocoy PS I am not putting down Exposure kings, and long stands next to a telescope, been there , done that... "stand on, don't let your cable release freeze"
