[ATM] Wanted: Wow Objects for Winter Star Party - Mid Northern Lattitude
Hi,
As I'd mentioned in some posts a long while back, my daughter's class is
going to be studying Astronomy, and we've been asked to bring in our scopes
to show the class, as well as helping out with a star party they'll do when
the unit is complete.
I just recently found out that my daughter's class (5th & 6th graders) is
going to be doing their astronomy unit over the winter, and will likely have
the star party in February or March. As you may have guessed, this makes
for extremely cold viewing in central Vermont (average evening temps range
around 0F to 20F [-17C to -7C]).
I've been invited to bring my scope to help out, which I'm glad to do, but
have only had one cold winter to view with my scope so far, so I'm not
really comfortable with the winter wow objects.
Can anyone give me some other early evening objects that are good wows as
well as easy to find in an 8" dob (No goto)? Then I'll start studying up on
them, and practicing locating them as soon as they are start 'coming
around'.
I also like to be able to give info and tell stories when I'm showing
objects, and keeping interest on astronomy instead of the cold will be
difficult that time of year. So, if you have a special way of talking about
the wow object, it would be appreciated if you'd forward a quick note on
that, too.
Thanks, in advance!
Dave
