I do get satisfaction having the old Hale telescope
still being used to discover the universe.  I have
been able to visit the scope up-close twice (once in
the early 70s and again about 3 years ago).  It is a
beautiful machine with an incredibly massive mount. 
It used a number of creative engineering ideas .  I
was the most intrigued with the use of swinging
counterweights to help lift the mirror in proportion
to its being tipped to keep it from deforming from its
own weight.
