[ATM] A Small Announcement

Hi, Folks,

I have a small announcement to make. Many of you use my Resource List
to help find telescope making supplies: http://www.tfn.net/~blombard I
have just added a substantial webpage that I hope is useful to the ATM
community, a full-length book.

The book is called, "Mechanical Design of Telescopes for the Amateur"
and is on a website link on my Resource List. The direct link is:
http://www.tfn.net/~blombard/book/MechanicalDesign.htm The description
on my page says, "A free, full-length online book for high-performance
telescope design. Features a mechanical design primer, short "At A
Glance" summaries of mount families, step by step approaches to many
tasks, and freeware design software to help." Perhaps a better way to
describe this is that it is intended to help you build your second
telescope. There are many books intended to help you build your first
telescope; this one intends to help with the hard task of answering just
how good it needs to be. The text there is the result of asking the
same questions myself and compiling notes since 1990.

I have been working on this book off and on for 16 years now. It is
time to share it.

I have recently been soliciting feedback on it from Mark Holm, Bob May,
and Mel Bartels, as well as some fellow engineers at work. It may be
revised, and I envision this as a sort-of "living document". I would
like to keep it up to date as a resource for newbies to the ATM world.
For now, this is to let folks know it's there.

Clear skies,
Bob
