initially i use a hand power drill w/t soft rotary pad
w/t stick-on sanding discs 100#. found GaterGrit
brand to be the best (ACE has it but not labeled on
the box - pull off a disc cover to see the brand).
the other brands ware vary quickly GaterGrit is tough
stuff.
you will get a very smooth edge. if you have a power
turntable eg, M-o-M it will go vary fast.
as you get into the finer grits shift to a piece of
glass and use the grit to remove the previous pits on
the chamfer. when you polish use the CEO and the
glass to keep the chamfer smooth and you won't get
those tiny scratches which arc from the edge towards
the center. again if you have a power turntable it
only takes a minute at the end of each polishing
session.
speaking of edges - and lesson learned the hard way!
started working on my 22? w/t a 16? glass tool.
pulled the tool off and there was this ting ? edge
crack, inch long ¼ inch in. now place a block of
plastic-HDPE at the edge ? pull the center of the tool
over the plastic and then tilt the tool on the plastic
? not the edge!
