Re: [ATM] How dark is dark?



Thanks for all of those that have participated in this thread.  It has
helped me sort out my thoughts on the subject.  Someone pointed out to
me off line that there are two densitometer types.  One will show the
same reading for both surfaces, one will show 'what the eye sees'.  That
may clear up a few discrepancies. 

Part of my reason for starting the thread was to help me understand the
subject a little better.  Remember, last time the subject came up, I was
on the other side.  But, I can now measure reflection from surfaces
fairly accurately.

Bottom line for me, I think I know where to use gloss and where not to. 
If I had quarter inch thick baffles in my tube, I would probably have
flat black on the edges.  The only time I think that there would be much
of a visible difference in any of this is if you were observing in a
bright area or trying to pick something out next to the moon.  Then that
extra half stop of light may make a difference.  But in general, half of
very little, is still, very little.
