Makes me wonder - What has silliness to do with it?
And IIRC Ken presented the evidence. If you still doubt, any of you 
can try one half each of the tube and see for yourself. And why would 
more scattered be good? I wouldn't think more scattered into the EP (or 
CCD) would be better.

Then again, the original question could perhaps be re-formulated. What 
to do to minimize unwanted light entering the detector via the OTA? 
perhaps.
