Jerry, you're sort of on the right track for making mirrors but
the problem is that the glass reacts differently than the plaster
so you probably won't be able to do a good finish figuring.  I
have done some flat work where good sized blanks were in dental
stone and the problem there is that the stone sometimes lifts
small chips and you then have a scratch.
