I did some mirror clips a bunch of years ago from aluminum strip about
1/16 inch thick.  I cut it from carpet edge trim strip.  The aluminum
was soft, so it was easy to bend a small right angle at the end to act
as the mirror retainer.  The drill and file routine produced enough of
an adjustment slot.  You don't need a whole lot if you drill the holes
fairly accurately.

I don't think I would use this style clip on a mirror larger than about
8 inches.  Not sturdy enough.
