Paul,
Yes you can make the lap over the tiles, it will
work fine. Some people cast two laps, one with tile
imbedded and one without, the reason being that if
they happen to scratch and/or need to go back to fine
grinding they dont have to stip the pitch off the tool
and then have to remake the pitch lap all over
again,(been there done that) but I still make only
the one,besides "most" times scratches made during
polishing can be removed by more polishing.
It all depends on your preference.
