Re: [ATM] Possible uses of kiln's in telescope makeing.
You ask what the possibilities are. Actually, there are NO possibilities at
all. A jewelry kiln is not going to be large enough to do mirror slumping,
and it will not have the ramping pyrometric temperature control you need for
annealing glass. For casting small metal parts, you will have problems
finding a suitable mold material, but perhaps your wife could do that stuff
for you.
What kind of jewelry will she be doing... Lost wax casting of gold and
silver? Glazed ceramic on copper?
My advice: make your wife happy, and don't mess with her stuff, and in the
long run that will make YOU not exactly happy, but at least a bit less
miserable.

Subject: [ATM] Possible uses of kiln's in telescope makeing.
My wife is wanting to purchase a kiln for doing jewelry making etc.. Since
it is a sizeable investment, I would like to use it for my own interests,
one of which is telescope makeing and improving..In other words I could be a
very easy sell if I knew I would get some advantages from having it around.
There should be some way to put a kiln to use in the ATM activities.
What temperatures are necessary to anneal pyrex and plate glass and what
kind of kiln temperature control is required? I assume it is somewhat less
than the melting temperature of the pyrex or glass.
What other possibilities are there?
