If you really want to blame sometihing, it was the bolting of the
primary to the tube before finding out where it actually focused.
I do all of the upper tube parts and then finally set the scope
on it's side and focus the scope on a distant mountain.  When the
mirror is at the right place, a 25mm EP will focus near the top
of the travel, usually a 1/4" in from the end of travel.
At this point, I glue a block on the tube up against the mirror
support.  When this drys, I thnn install the other two blocks,
screw them, if necessary, to the tube and then drill the holes
for the attachment screws for the mirror cell.  The thing that is
nice about doing the mounting of the cell to the tube this way is
that you can remove the cell and replace it without losing the
collimation.
