When you start going down through the grits, you really need to
shorten up your strokes and the width of the W.  You are no
longer trying to change the ROC but rather you are trying to make
the curve spherical now.  This is best done with shorter strokes
and little overhang to the side.
Typically, if you do a Sharpie test with a curve that has just
been formed, you'll get a ring that cleans off first followed by
the edge and finally the center.  That you're getting the center
first indicates that you are still rapidly changeing the ROC of
the glass.
