Sounds like you probably did as well as you could with the information you
had. Personally I am surprised you got as close as you did, using the
advertised focal length of the mirror. Mine was supposedly a f5, but was
really more like a f4.8.
I used the math plus the full scale graphical method. I had a fairly
accurate measurement of the mirror focal length, which I considered
necessary. The 'unknown' (problem) for me was determining where the
focal(image) plane needed to be for my eyepieces. Some seemed to want it
inside the eyepiece barrel, others appeared to focus outside the barrel.
Some I never did figure out. I decided there was about a 3/4 inch range
that needed to be allowed for. Fortunately my eyepieces reachs focus near
the fully in position of the focuser...I will probably readjust that someway
in the future.....
