Re: [ATM] Cutting the sonotube for a dobsonian

In OTA design, tube (Sonotube) is one extreme, truss is another one,
especially "monotruss" .
By cutting parts of tube out and then reinforcing what
remained is controversial approach in my opinion.
Truss is today dominant OTA in ATM because of its
advantages like weight to rigidity ratio, simple construction,
from ATM viewpoint, easy dismantling for storage or transport
low wind cross-section, to mention some.

I wander what is the ratio of tube versus truss designs
today. Based on available pictures from atm meetings
truss designs are dominant. Perhaps this depends on
mirror size. Tube, while good enough for small sizes
seems to be quickly impractical for bigger ones.
