Bob, this sounds logical, but in fact they (Clave, the company) claim
quite the contrary - that this is quite new design made possible after
they wrote custom software, which performed some "magical" optimizations
:-) Please, excuse my irony, but the companies today are quite obsessed
with secrecy and actually prefer publicly perceived view of their
technology as "magical" devices :-)
Now, Clave is (or was?) very serious company, but I have not found any
reasoning for their variant of relay corrector lens. I can understand if
such lens are being developed for large aperture, but 166mm and 254mm,
even 460mm are hardly called large apertures.
