Sometimes the humor comes out in this list!  Moose hide for a dew
shield indeed!
Anyway, there are a lot of ways to do a dew shield.  The various
art and sewing supply stuff is nice for a shield but I'd do it
with the same material as you've built the rest of the scope
with.  Another piece of concrete form tube (if that is what you
built the scope's tube with) will do fine while a bit of wood
tube if that is what youbuilt the original tube with will do
fine.
I'd probably put the extension on permentantly rather than just a
removable piece.  Put the connection ring on the outside of the
tube so that you don't get any obstruction on the inside or on
the inside if it won't obstruct the light path.
