Hi everyone,
I trying to penetrate soda lime glass CTE (8.36 X 10 -6 C) on ZTA (Zirconia toughened alumina) ceramics CTE (8.0 X 10 -6 C) (3mm X 4mm) surface at temperatures more than 1300 C
To my surprise the ceramics showed bending when cooled to room temperature (Cooled in furnace). I calculated the deflection and calculated stress to be less that 150 MPA near the surface (very less to cause such a bend, while inner stress was less than 100 Mpa). Can anyone suggest what could be reason for such a bend in these samples. Even though thermal mismatch is hardly there.
oh ya! i heated the ZTA ceramics as such as in same conditions but no bending was seen. So question of zirconia and alumina mismatch doesn't come in picture, hopefully.
adios
Avinash
