Re: [ATM] Suggestions on a Router?

I'll second Ross' recommendation on the Porter-Cable dual base model.
P-C makes some of the finest tools I have ever used. You will be able
to pass it on to your kids if laser cutting equipment doesn't become the
standard for the home shop. <G>
One of the leading woodworking magazines also highly recommends the
Bosch dual base model. I have several Bosch tools and they are all
excellent. Many of the differences between makes would hardly be
noticeable to the weekend woodworker.
But most importantly: DON'T BUY CHEAP ROUTER BITS!!!! And don't buy
anything but carbide ones. Even the best high speed steel bits are only
one-project-use. I had an odd shaped HSS bit that had to be sharpened 3
times during one project, and you can tell the difference on the
moldings from different sharpenings if you look carefully. Stick with
bits from CMT, P-C, or Freud.
Add Standard Disclaimer to all above recommendations. I grew up with 3
uncles and 5 cousins who were trade carpenters/cabinet makers. I've
been butchering wood since I was 8!
