I have never seen a formula for how much atmosphere I am looking through at  
different altitudes.  At home (Florida) I am observing from about 40  feet 
above mean low tide (amlt).  For all real purposes average atmospheric  pressure 
is 14.7 psi.  If I go to thr Rocky Mountains to observe from 5000  feet amlt, 
how much less atmosphere am I looking through?  Or what is the  average 
atmospheric pressure at altitude X?
