Another way to look at the lens is to see which way the internal curves of
the lens are.  You want those surfaces to normally put their ROC towards the
sky.  There, unfortunately, is an exception to this "standard" with the
Steinheil format for a lens where the flint is in front of the crown but you
will see much steeper curves in the internal surfaces than with a "normal"
lens design.
