[ATM] re: PC out in the cold

Leaving your computer on all the time uses a substantial amount of energy,
which both costs money and has negative environmental impacts (greenhouse
gas and NOx/SOx emissions). Perhaps the use of a small heating element to
keep the system warm when turned off might be a better compromise. Most PCs
are likely replaced due to obselescence, as opposed to component failure
anyways, so in many cases the argument about increasing failure rates due to
turning your PC on and off may be a moot point.
Best regards,

Never ever turn your computer off. because of the differences in thermal
expansion semiconductors are assigned a life of around 500 thermal cycles
before micro cracks develop in the chip causing it to fail. It is in the
spec books from all the semiconductor suppliers. The big problem with
running equipment warm outside it attracts rodents, and they can get into
the smallest places and urinate on the circuit boards - - no joke I had it
happen to me several times. the pc board will clean up with Isopropyl. I buy
glue boards from the local pest control, very effective. The mice were
getting in through half inch hole that cables passed through.
