[ATM] dew

Hi all,
After another perfect viewing night was ruined by dew, I decided to come to
the list for solutions/ideas. Will an observatory protect my
scope/components from dew? A dew heater will protect my secondary but what
about the eyepieces and the finder? I have tried the heat packs that hunters
use. They work, but not very well. I have some design ideas for a portable
observatory, but if it won't help, then why bother?
As for the thread about friction/stiction in mirror cells. A 1/4" ball
bearing embedded in silicone will solve that problem quite neatly. The
bearing keeps the parts separated, while the silicone keeps them from
falling apart. This is probably a type of compliant hinge. It maintains
parts in position, but allows a fair amount of movement at the same time.
Anyone baffeled by all the engineering flying around can contact me and I'll
tell them how to build a 27pt cell, that works.
Clear skies, Jerry
