RE: [ATM] Off Topic - Hooking up multiple computers to one internetconnection

What you want to do is get a cable modem/dsl router from
one of your discount electronics stores. You can get either
wired only or wired/wireless routers. The price is about
the same for wired or 802.11b wireless(slower). The 802.11g
wireless(faster) will cost a little more. The cost of the
router should be well under $100 and closer to the $40
range for wired only. The way it connects is your existing
broadband connection goes into the WAN port on the router,
your computers connect to one of the other wired ports on
the router. As long as your computers have their network
IP set to DHCP (automatically get an IP address) you should
be able to just plug everything in, reboot the computers,
and it should work. The only other think you might have to
do is to clone the mac address from the computer that is
currently hooked up to the internet to the router. The
instructions that come with the routers are easy to follow
if you need to do this.

I know this is off topic, but I trust you folks for good
advice.

I've been overseas for over two years, and now that I'm
back in the US I have more than one computer in a room, but
only one (broadband) internet connection. I don't want to
get a second connection, I want to share it between two
machines.

What options do I have, and what are they called?
Switches? (Copper wire)...or a wireless device? Any
ballpark cost estimate?

Thanks in advance.
