After hearing from several people on the list, I've decided that I will 
go ahead and build everything from 3/4-inch plywood.  I will be taking 
some weight reducing steps, though, such as removing some of the center 
material in some of the panels.

Originally, I had also planned to build everything from construction 
grade plywood because that is what I already had on hand, but I have now 
decided not to do so.  Instead, I have located and purchased some 
plywood at Home Depot called "Sandply."  I don't know what type of wood 
it is, but it is smoothly finished on both sides and has more plies than 
construction grade material does.  It looks good and  I think that it 
will make an attractive mount which can be stained and polyurethaned 
instead of being painted.
