Re: [ATM] Friction and sticking in multipoint mounts
Art,
You and they misunderstand the purpose of the cell.
It is not to provide a precision surface accurate to a
particular 1/12 wave. But instead provide equal
support and force to the back of the mirror so that it
does not bend more than the accuracy required. It does
not put the accuracy into a thin mirror it only helps
keep it there. If the mirror was very limber it could
not work. But even a 1:16 thickness ratio piece of
glass is stiff enough to hold its surface as shown by
Plop's FEM when supported by those forces at an
acceptable margin of error. That is a very easy job
for the levers to accomplish. It is just a matter of
working with the laws of physics instead of against
them.
