[ATM] stainless freezes (was: Ball bearing for triangles)
Hello Peter.
Stainless Steel parts, if joined with high pressure (or strong force),
has the tendency to 'freeze' or 'weld' together. This is often found
when tapered threads like NPT or ISO 7/1 on pipe fittings are connected.
In this cases it is strongly suggested to use some kind of lubricant
like oil, grease or, in case of the pipe threads, teflon tape.
I have seen machined parts made of stainless, worth several hundreds of
$$, ruined because someone tried to put a pipe fiting in a female thread
just to check if it fits. The pipe fitting froze even before a wrench
was used.
Regards, Chris
