RE: ATM designing a 30" Springfield

Hi John,

I’ve had an 8” Springsonian for about 8 years and have found the fixed height eyepiece to be a wonderful feature for extended viewing sessions. If I may, I’d like to suggest that you optimize the eyepiece height for yourself and offer a short step, or even more practical, a short ramp for those that are shorter. Even a slight stoop can lessen the enjoyment of a fixed height eyepiece scope.

Design goals:

Telescope will be permanently installed on site. Therefore, many of the constraints on materials/weight are loosened.

Eyepiece height constant at 65” above ground. Me bent over slightly, and my wife on tiptoes.
