If it were easy, everyone would do it.  Even simple systems have numerous
obstacles around which one must engineer.  Further, many many professional
optical manufacturers daily use overarm type polishing machines, little
changed in the last 80 years, to produce twentieth, fiftieth, and even
hundredth wave surfaces (RMS at 633nm of course).
