Actually (and I do need to get a web page for this scope) the 17.5"
telescope myself and a couple of friends built for our club uses about
20lbs of spring counter weighting; It operates great.  I do agree thought
that you at least want the mirror and mirror cell behind the center of
rotation for the scope.
