Re: ATM Scopes - tele & micro

Dominic,
Not true darkfield on one of my stereo microscopes. Set up with high intensity oblique light. Mirror is examinrd against a black background. Quite satisfactory for classes in mirror making I teach. I take the scope and light source with me to class.
The other set up I use at home is true darkfield. It is a B&L Gemolite 10-30-60 power scope with a substage illuminator that provides true darkfield, or may be switched to brightfield. Invented for the Gemological Institute of America by a very bright guy named Lester Bensen. ( Yes, I am a gemologist. Fellow of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain.)

Yep- I do. Darkfield at 30 power shows anything that won't readily polish

Hello Bill,

How do you set up a stereo microscope for a darkfield? I have used darkfield with my mono objective microscope from 100X thru 500X. Are you using a true darkfield setup?
