Maybe I am re-inventing the wheel. Why didn't the platform in the article
you mention become popular or well known?

The article under reference is in June 1978 issue of S&T. It describes a
simple geometrical method of making the shaped cams required. I have not
tried it but it seems quite simple. It is claimed that it will track for
four hours.
Perhaps it did not become better known coz no one thought of using it for a
barndoor!
It may gain popularity if some one could come up with a simple computer
program to design the cams.
