Re: ATM Wiring (DPDT Reversing Switch)
Hi Paul and Kim,
Here is the simplest fix I know of to reverse DC polarity -- One DPDT
Switch.
You can use a Double-Pole, Double-Throw lever switch, the kind that has six
metal contacts on the bottom with holes through them for wires (DPDT switch
from Radio Shack for instance, costs about $4 or so). It should be large
enough -- maybe an inch or more long, so the switch lever is easy to
manipulate. There should be a nut at the base of the lever to secure the
switch through existing or drilled (1/4 or so) hole in your hand-paddle box.
Solder a short piece of (insulated) solid copper small-gauge wire from the
top-left corner contact to the bottom-right corner, and the same from top
right to bottom left, being careful not to touch any of the other contacts
with solder. This "crosses" the contacts.
Then run your wires to the motor from the center pair of contacts, one wire
from each contact to each side of the motor. The power source goes to either
the top two or bottom two contacts. When you flip the switch one way the
motor will run clockwise, flip the other way and it will run
counterclockwise.
You can use two single-pole switches, but the exact wiring is harder to
describe, and requires two mounting holes and more space.
