ATM Another question on focus plane of eyepiece

I have another question for the list concerning the focal plane of an
eyepiece.  If I were to try adding a reticle to an eyepiece, would I
attach it to the field stop inside the eyepiece?  I'm presuming that
this is where the image is sharpest, and thus is where the reticle image
would clearly be projected out towards the eye.

I was considering taking one side of a 2 power 28 degree FOV binocular,
and inserting a glass Edmund reticle (which probably costs more then the
binoculars) and illuminating the glass with an LED.  Would this work?
