ATM CeO vs Rouge
I'm a few hours into polishing on my matched set of 8" f6 mirrors.
This is my first attempt at pushing glass, and it seems like the
Cerium Oxide is polishing REAL FAST compared to what I've read.
All of my references talk about rouge, and Texereau has only
bad things to say about CeO compared to rouge. The Willman Bell
abrasives kit includes only CeO, although some of the labels mention
CeO, then "black rouge".
Should I order some rouge to use for final polishing and figuring,
or is there some way to "slow down" the cerium oxide toward the end ?
It was very reflective in ten minutes, and I detected no change in "feel"
on the lap from 30 minutes till 2 hours polishing.
Will any of these methods let me approach figure as gradually
and yield as high a polish as rouge ?
1. More dilute solution of CeO slurry.
2. Shake a solution in a bottle and use the upper fraction.
3. Don't texture the lap facets (using mosquito netting in cold press),
or else texture with something else.
Any suggestions are welcome, including "stop worrying about it"
thanks in advance,
