What you want is USP (United States Pharmacopeia) Collodion - which is just nitrocellulose dissolved in ether/alcohol. If it's labelled "Flexible Collodion", don't use it - flexible collodion includes castor oil or other similar materials, and will leave a nice oil film on your optics! Incidentally, although collodion is extremely flammable, and the ether/alcohol vapor is explosive (at concentrations between roughly 1.8% and 36% in air), the nitrocellulose is *not* guncotton. Guncotton is a highly nitrated cellulose, whereas the stuff in collodion is only partially nitrated. It still burns well, but you can't make bombs from it....
